Love them or hate them, cover songs are everywhere.
This month we are sharing our 5 favourite covers.
The Kooks had plenty of good covers for us to chose from, everything from a version of Despair in the Departure Lounge by Arctic Monkeys, to a mash up of The Rolling Stones/Lou Reed’s Beast of Burden/Sweet Jane but our all time favourite is their cover of Gorgan City’s Here For You, that they played for BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge earlier this year. Luke on the piano, with his killer vocals totally out did the original for us.
And speaking of Arctic Monkeys, we couldn’t possibly leave them out, not when they gave us the ultimate lounge lizard performance of all time when they covered Drake’s Hold On We’re Going Home for BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge back in September of last year
Naomi saw Albert Hammond, Jr. in Las Vegas this summer when he opened for The Strokes. She caught his rocking version of the classic Buzzcocks song Ever Fallen In Love.
Shortly before his death, Johnny Cash gave us an emotional remake of Nine Inch Nail’s hit song Hurt. The song and video are pretty much considered Cash’s epitaph.
Marilyn Manson was a master with his covers, putting his own spooky spin on everything from The Eurythmics’ Sweet Dreams, Depeche Mode’s Personal Jesus to our favourite Soft Cell’s Tainted Love, which also by the way was a cover, the first person to record the song was Gloria Jones in 1964.
