With tantalizing soulful vocals and lyrics that send arrows straight to the heart, James Bay could win anyone over.
He dropped his album Chaos and the Calm in the US on March 24th shortly following his Jimmy Kimmel debut in Austin, sending fans to a frenzy.
This album will send you on an emotional roller coaster. The track starts of with Craving that consists of upbeat instrumentals and lyrics that talk about craving for something more – which I know in some aspect we all can relate to. His powerful vocals push through the speakers and will make you FEEL.
Following right after is Hold Back the River, one of my personal favorites. The song starts off with an acoustic guitar and his emotional vocals as he sings, “tried to keep you close to me but life got in between,” making the message of the track absolutely raw. The rest of the instrumentals flow slowly after, complimenting every breath and lyric. The song, as I perceived it, talks about reminiscing a lost love with words like, “hold back the river, let me look in your eyes. Hold back the river, so I can stop for a minute and be by your side.”
James Bay is going to be a name to remember in 2015. If you still haven’t heard of him, you can buy Chaos and the Calm on iTunes or a physical on Amazon. You won’t regret it.
Krystal and I got up at 4 am on the first day we were at SXSW to go to the W Hotel and stood in the rain for two hours to catch a very short performance by James Bay for a radio show. He sang Hold Back The River and Let It Go. The short performance was amazing and he is on our list, we are hoping to catch a full set in the future. As for standing in the rain for two hours… Completely worth it.
