I was kindly given the privilege to listen to and review Kodaline’s second album, Coming Up for Air, before the US release date of April 14, 2015, and I absolutely loved it. The quartet from Dublin, Ireland, made up of Steve Garrigan(Vocals, Rhythm Guitar, Harmonica, Keys), Mark Prendergast(Lead Guitar, Keys, BVs), Vinny May(Drums/BVs), and Jason Boland (Bass/BVs), have created, yet another, masterpiece with rhythms and vocals that beautifully complement each other.
The album starts off with the single Honest, which envelopes you in its breath-taking vocals and upbeat melody. The next song, The One, tells a beautiful lyrical story true to its name. So far, the songs compliment each other in a way that works almost meticulously. The fifth track, Unclear, is my personal favorite because of its calming rhythms and flowing notes that make you really appreciate this album. The album has several slower songs that are absolutely astounding and resemble a bit of Snow Patrol. Some of the tracks tell quite a sad story like, Moving On, but you will still end up loving them because of their meaningful piano and overall brilliance. Aside from that, the album also features a few upbeat songs that sound somewhat like U2 and make you want to cruise around with your windows down. Love Will Set You Free is another favorite due to its gospel sound and lovely use of instruments; like a trumpet. Overall, Kodaline didn’t fail to impress me for a second time – I was very pleased with Coming Up for Air, and I really look forward to hearing it live.
Kodaline will be headlining a massive North American tour, so make sure to pre-order Coming Up for Air and see if they’re coming to a city near you – they definitely won’t disappoint. To get more information on Kodaline check out their Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, and Sound Cloud.
