Atlanta’s Radio 105.7 Fourth Annual Saints & Sinners Ball with Mondo Cozmo and The Struts

Alt Rock Radio Station 105.7 in Atlanta has done it again.  Last year’s Saints & Sinners Ball featured Kiev, Bear Hands and Foals.  They pulled off an amazing repeat show this year, their fourth, with Mondo Cozmo and The Struts.  With what is now becoming an Atlanta Halloween tradition, mixing costume party and great music, I headed down to Park Tavern for my second ball.

The venue itself is impressive. An indoor music-themed bar along opens up to Piedmont Park, offering beautiful city sunsets and an outdoor covered concert area. There is plenty of space for everyone, with firepits under the canopy and outdoor seating for those needing some fresh air and some city sights.  The sound system is great for an indoor/outdoor facility, and ample parking is located immediately next door.

American openers Mondo Cozmo are relative new comers to the scene, having only been on the gig circuit for about a year.  In this time they’ve played close to 200 shows.  But don’t let this fool you, they have learned a lot in that year and put on an amazing show.  In keeping with the Halloween theme, the band played in dresses and wigs. I first heard of Mondo Cozmo when their single Shine hit the radio and satellite waves. But this easy going hit isn’t all they have to offer. Last night’s show was a treat… they kicked off with Chemical Dream, followed by 11 Acre, Come with Me, Higher, River, Plastic Soul,  an intense cover of The Verve’s Bittersweet Symphony, and closing with Automatic.  It was a great set to get the crowd warmed up for headliners, The Struts.

Never failing to disappoint, The Struts were, in a word, fabulous.  They played a non-stop set, opening with Put Your Hands Up, and not stopping til the last beat.  They played crowd favorites Kiss This, Put Your Money On Me, and These Times are Changing, along with several other tracks. All this in sequins and style that lead singer Luke Spiller is known for.  A shout out to David Bowie was performed as a cover of Rebel Rebel  had the crowd singing along.  If you haven’t had the chance to check them out, make sure to do so.  You won’t regret it!

Thanks again to Radio 105.7 for hosting this amazing evening. Until next year!
