Blood Orange, aka Dev Hynes, has returned to social media to announce his new song Sandra’s Smile. The track pays tribute to Sandra Bland and continues to raise awareness to the ongoing social injustices and police brutalities.
Dev previously teased the track on Instagram a few days ago, it’s a poignant piece of artistry that showcases Dev’s love for New York City and dance. It’s emotional charged R&B song with a lot of passion with lyrics like “Who taught you to breathe? / Then took away your speech.” Dev brings life into the song reminding us to not forget about Sandra Bland.
Hynes also announced a concert called Blood Orange & Friends that will take place on December 12th at the Legendary Harlem’s Apollo Theater. All proceeds will go to Opus 118 Harlem School of Music. Tickets can be bought here.
Dev shared a message about the show:
Playing music saved my life; if it wasn’t for the chance to play cello or piano when I was a kid growing up in Essex, I shudder to think where I’d be right now. At this point in my life, all that matters to me is giving back to communities and making people happy, so I have decided to put on a fun night of performances at the legendary Apollo Theatre in Harlem that is hopefully affordable to all, with all proceeds going to the Opus 118 Harlem School of Music. New York City, let’s have some fun!
