Concert Review: Rooney at Club Dada in Dallas

Rooney performing at Club Dada in Deep Ellum, Dallas, Texas on July 19, 2017.

The first time I heard of Rooney was back in 2002 when Rooney went on tour to open for The Strokes, talk about a lineup. I remember looking into them and that’s when I first heard their single Blueside and I’m Shakin’, I was immediately hooked.
Now it’s 2017 and I’m still loving Rooney as if I was that sixteen-year-old girl again and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

It was finally the day of Rooney’s gig on July 19th and a crowd congregated at Club Dada at Deep Ellum in Dallas. Despite the thick dank air and no air conditioning, no one was complaining. Everyone was wiping sweat from their faces but we were all waiting patiently for Rooney while basking in the hot Texas air. Then the moment came for Rooney to walk out and the crowd immediately perked up, no longer focusing on how hot it was because it was time for the show to begin.
Rooney opened the show with one of my favorites and the reason I fell for them, Blueside. That nostalgic feeling came rushing back and I was immediately transported back to high school. However the whole night, there was a brilliant mix of Rooney classics such as If It Were Up to Me, Daisy Duke, Popstars, and I’m Shakin’ along with new fan favorites like Second Chances, Why, My Heart Beats 4U, Day 2 Day, and Washed Away.

Rooney’s energy was electric and seductive, the crowd was enchanted and singing along to the classics just as much as with their new songs. Robert Schwartzman was captivating and gracious. The band was cohesive and performed with ease, your eyes were glued to them while dancing along to the songs which are perfectly fitting for this red-hot weather.
Rooney has a way of transporting you to a time when you fell for them and reminding you as to why you love them. They resonate with a time in your life and those classic songs cling to you although it’s not just the older songs because the new songs are just as infectious and hypnotic. Their new EP El Cortez is the epitome of Rooney without being trite. Nothing but feel-good songs that make you want to dance like no one’s watching.

Make sure you catch Rooney on their Ultrasonic Summer Tour, dates are below.
