“Bonsoir Paris, we’re ready for this!” frontman Jesse Hughes of Eagles of Death Metal shouted while emerging on the stage in his signature pink sunglasses and bright red suspenders. The band, which also includes frontman Josh Homme, played a full array of their hits, such as Speaking In Tongues and Don’t Speak (I Came to Make a Bang).
Three months ago, Eagles Of Death Metal’s last show in Paris was tragically cut short when the Bataclan music hall became one of several targets across Paris for Islamist militants opened fire, killing 89 people died in the attack but a total of 130 people were killed altogether. Respectively, Eagles of Death Metal pulled the plug on their European tour after the attack and even briefly returned to the stage in Paris three weeks later during a U2 concert, playing a handful of tracks with the headliners which you can see here.
Last night, EODM kicked off their rescheduled European and returned to Paris to finish the concert at the Olympia Theater. Free tickets were offered to survivors of the Bataclan and even though the area around the Olympia was locked down by police and a team of 30 psychologists were in the crowd in case the music triggered survivors’ trauma.
“I hope I can walk out on that stage and be stronger than I am being right now. I don’t want to fall to pieces in front of everyone. That is my biggest fear. This is therapy for me” stated Jesse Hughes.
