Brian Wakefield, or better known as Emotional, is a singer-songwriter, director, and founder of Death Records. Wakefield is from San Jose and has been making dream pop music since the 2000’s. Formerly being in band called Melted Toys, this album is his latest project that has really let his creativity flow massively. The name of the album is Ahh… The Name Is Emotional, Baby! and I really was in love with the title because of its uniqueness, but also because it describes what the entire LP is going to be about. His inspirations come from a various amount of artists like Kate Bush, The Smashing Pumpkins, Gram Parsons, and more. The pop album is an emotionally rich, introspective delight to your ears. The highly anticipated ten track album comes out on February 19th, 2016.
The first track is entitled Believe In Me and has a very inviting intro with upbeat synths that carry further into the song with stunning vocals, making it endlessly playable. Going deeper into the album with track six entitled Lies, it is one of my favorites because of the slow but breathtaking guitar playing alongside the lush vocals and relatable lyrics. About halfway through the track, it starts to have a feel-good vibe which makes me love the cleverly written song even more. The songs can all be described as richly textured and genius. The eighth and ninth tracks are titled Emotional Man and Isabel. Both equally having beautifully depressing lyrics that Wakefield has mastered. Stop U From Luv ‘n’ Me is the last song on the album and gets better and better with each listen. When I first played the song, I was immediately intoxicated by the joyful sounds of the piano mixed with Brian’s gorgeous, scuzzy vocals.
