Get to Know… Bad Suns

California rock band, Bad Suns, is coming to Atlanta Wednesday March 15, 2017 at The Loft.    This is just one of many sold out shows they are playing this tour in support of their new album, Disappear Here.  I had a chance to catch up with lead singer, Chris, before the gig.

Hi guys!

Jo from GATRS (Girls At The Rock Show) here!

Congratulations, I see shows on this tour are selling out!  It must feel pretty good to know so many people love and support you.

I’ve read so many positive reviews of the new album, Disappear Here, and have seen it described as more “pop” than its predecessor, Language and Perspective.  Was this a conscious decision to try something a little different or more of a natural evolution for you?  What can we expect going forward?  Or do you let the songs write themselves and take you where they lead you?

Thanks for the kind words. It was a conscious decision to improve with this album. You can expect to hear from us for a long time coming, I reckon.

Onto something heavy for a moment….The video for ‘Salt’  from your first album… wow… what a powerful song and video.  Are you seeing a resurgence in interest in the song given today’s political climate surrounding gender identity issues?

I notice that people continue to discover the video, and that makes me happy. It’s powerful and should be seen by as many people as possible.

Intimate show here in Atlanta at The Loft ‪on March 15 and playing Bonnaroo in June.  Completely different set ups.  What are your thoughts on the crowds, the energy at these two polar opposite venues, and do you play to the crowd any differently?

It’s hard to compare. I quite prefer playing our own shows. However, festivals are fun as well as a nice change of scenery from time to time. The energy is great in both cases, and varies drastically in both cases.

When touring how do you spend your off time in different cities?  Do you spend your time together or need to take a break from each other?

We spend a lot of time together. Everyone will wander off and do their own thing as well. We’ve all known each other for years and years, it’s not awkward or difficult or anything.

Thanks so much for taking the time to chat, and many well wishes for the rest of your tour.     Jo    x
