Get To Know: Cheerleader

Cheerleader is an Indie Haze-Pop quintet from Philadelphia that captured our attention when their song A Million Ways popped up on Soundcloud. Their music is just as they describe it: Indie Rock Power Pop.

Joe Haller (vocals) and Chris Duran (guitar) started the band as a duo that emerged from a middle school friendship. They dcheerleaderx3ecided they owed it to themselves to give their dream a shot, moved to Philadelphia, released a self produced three song demo in their apartment and gathered more attention than they anticipated. They were faced with a problem: how were they going to reenact their live music with only two members? Which is where John Pannepacker (keyboard), Carl Bahner (drums), and Paul Impellizeri (bass) came in to the picture and so the now five piece Cheerleader was born.

Cheerleader’s A Million Ways falls flawlessly in the indie pop category with the perfect mix of 80s and 90s vibe with a modern twist. With full bodied instrumentals that definitely fill a room, relatable lyrics, and a voice to back it up – this song is no doubt on my summer playlist. A Million Ways tells a story and progresses throughout it’s four minute duration, building up in just the right places making the listener feel like they’re living out the singer’s words. The song has a very sturdy structure and for a band that started off in their parents garage, they know how to make really good music.

The GATRS not only love old timeless classic bands, but also new ones that are a force to be reckoned with. Cheerleader is sure to make it big, so don’t miss out any longer!
