Blaenavon (pronounced Bly-Nah-Vin) are a zestful three piece out of Liphook, Hampshire compromised of Benjamin Gregory (Vocals/Guitar), Frank Wright (Bass), and Harris McMillan (Drums). We’ve been following up with them since 2013, and have loved every release since. With their music on the rise, they’ve played classic festivals all over the UK, and have even had features on Annie Mac, Zane Lowe, and Huw Stephens.
In March of 2013, the Paradyse/Transgressive-signed trio released their first single: Into the Night with B-side Denim Patches. About six months later, they put out their first EP entitled KOSO, which featured four tracks that were undeniably laced in bliss: Wunderkind, Gods, Prague, and Lost in Paris. The reaction to this EP was massive and launched the band into the respectful threshold of success, which enabled them to headline iconic venues within the UK such as the Sunflower Lounge and the Barfly. With nearly a two year absence in music releases, Blaenavon’s latest EP, Miss World, was released in October of 2015. It’s built of Hell is My Head, Destiny’s Mild, and Dragon; tracks that yet again blew everyone’s mind.
Earlier this year, the band announced their debut American appearance at SXSW in Austin, Texas via PRS Foundation. Having opened for bands like Sundara Karma and the Sherlocks, as well as having played six shows at SXSW, 2016 is shaping up to be Blaenavon’s year. With word going around that a debut album is on its way, we can’t help but get excited. They have also recently released dates for their spring UK headline tour including shows at London’s Dingwalls, the Think Tank, and many more for May & June of 2016. If you’ve not yet heard of them, Blaenavon are an ambitious band with striking tunes that you’re sure to love.
