Watch out Spotify, a new high-fidelity streaming music service is here. Helmed by Jay Z, TIDAL launches today at 5 pm, there’s already a countdown on the official site here.
TIDAL was acquired by the rapper last month as part of a $56 million dollar deal with the Scandinavian platform Aspiro.
Several artists have already thrown their support behind TIDAL, changing their Twitter icons to light blue and tweeting the hashtag #TIDALForAll.
Among them are Kanye West, Jack White’s Third Man Records, Arcade Fire, Chris Martin, Madonna, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, and so many more.
Tidal offers two price tiers: For $9.99 a month, Tidal Premium boasts standard quality sound along with high-definition music videos. Tidal HiFi will cost $19.99 a month and features the Lossless High Fidelity sound quality that its competitors can’t offer, as well as the HD music videos and curated editorial. New users can sign up for a free 30-day trial to test out the service.
The star-studded involvement suggests that the TIDAL might have other advantages in addition to superior-sounding streams: Exclusive content directly from major artists available only for Tidal users. Taylor Swift’s 1989, which the singer pulled from Spotify, is already available on Jay Z’s service.
