It was a hot and steamy Cincinnati afternoon when Lydia, an indie rock band from Gilbert, Arizona, took the main stage to open Bunbury Festival 2016. Frontman Leighton Antelman started a trend of appearing barefoot on the first day of the festival, and Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine ended it.
Lydia has its roots in a group of high school friends who were writing music and producing shows starting in the 7th grade. Officially formed in 2003, Lydia would go on to release This December, It’s One More and I’m Free in 2005, Illuminate in 2008, and Assailants in 2010. With the departure of several of the original band members in 2010, Lydia went on hiatus to regroup and decide how to proceed. They came back in 2011 with Paint it Golden in 2011, Devil in 2013, and their latest album Run Wild in 2015. They played a solid act before an appreciative audience and represented themselves well in the thirty minute set usually reserved for openers and left the audience wanting more. We wish them luck as they continue with their tour.
