New Release: Death Valley Girls “Summertime”

Death Valley Girls sound like they’re straight out of a vintage biker movie… Bonnie Bloomgarden is the leader of the pack, her vocals cement their sound of an old-school badass girl-gang attitude. Peering out from a straight line of jet-black bangs is a bass player who just goes by “Rocky.” Laura Kelsey (formerly of surf/garage girls The Flytraps) plays Mo Tucker meets Nick Knox style drums and Larry Schemel who played in the last incarnation of legendary L.A. punk pagans The Flesh Eaters plays fuzz-heavy guitar like he just might be the bastard son of Davie Allan.

The new track is reminiscent of a beachy yet ’60s garage rock fusion, mostly due to the dueling guitar work of Larry Schemel and frontwoman Bonnie Bloomgarden. Laura Kelsey beats down on the drums to give the track a throbbing jolt of power while Bobby “Burger” May adds a dash of ominous vibes with a steady bass. It all builds up then erupts into a piercing chorus as singer Jessie Jones joins Bloomgarden to deliver a wail of, “I’ll see you in the summertime!

About Naomi (889 Articles)
The most important thing to know about me is that I'm a melomaniac and shameless fangirl. I am addicted to concerts, they are my sanctuary and safe haven. When I'm on the front row on the barricade of a concert... I feel that I am truly home. I'm also a proud and happy vinyl crate-digger. Whether it's searching for vinyl at flea markets, garage sales, vintage shops... I am a sucker for the crackling of a good record when the needle drops on a turntable. I am a true Cancer with Moon in Cancer. Social Media: @youthquakermimi
