Aaron Maine and his solo project Porches stopped by the SiriusXM Studios today to promote his latest full-length, Pool.
During the session, which will be broadcast on SiriusXMU this afternoon, the band paid homage to The Strokes classic, Trying Your Luck.
TYL is one of those beloved Strokes classics, it was one of the first songs I remember listening to back in 2001 when I was in high school and having a moment of “where has this been all my life?!” It’s one of those tracks that made me fall in love with Julian Casablancas howling voice, Fabrizio Moretti’s oscillating drum beats, Nick Valensi’s oh so cool and relaxed vibe to his spidery guitar skills, Nikolai Fraiture’s chill demeanor playing that rich baritone bass, and Albert Hammond, Jr. tearing it up on rhythm guitar was what is burned into my brain.. Fast forward to 2016 and I am still, very much in love with the Strokes. Aaron Maine feels similarly, speaking with SiriusXMU, Maine said:
“The Strokes just came out at such a crazy formative part of my life,” Porches’ Aaron Maine explained to Sirius XM this week. “I had never heard anything like that,” he continued. “They just were so special to me, so responsible for me getting into music as much as I did. I even think melodically Julian [Casablancas] is there in my subconscious.”
