South London-based four-piece, INHEAVEN, are a ’90s grunge-infused indie band that is named after a reference to David Lynch’s oddity Eraserhead.
Their first official single release, Regeneration, was not only produced by The Strokes’ Julian Casablancas but it was also released via his own label, Cult Records. Garnering Casablancas’ seal of approval they began to rack up plays on Radio 1 and Radio X and catching the eye of many, including ours.
Their single, World On Fire, is our Song of the Day with its razor-sharp guitar riffs and the dulcet voice of vocalist/bassist Chloe Little but don’t let her saccharine voice fool you. Her dusky voice howls at the chorus with its strong and defiant message of women’s rights. Lyrics like “my body’s mine, you have no say on any choice I make today” are a perfect example of bellicose voices we need in music. This anthem is dripping with energy and piercing riffs, hammering drum beats, and a booming bass that will have you yelling and singing right along with Inheaven.
To have a band make a witty and post-punk anthem about women’s rights, which is somehow still something we have to deal with especially women of color… Well, where have you been all of our lives INHEAVEN? Listen below.
