Annie Clark has shared the official audio release of Pills from her forthcoming St. Vincent album Masseduction. She premiered Pills song over the weekend at the Red Bull Music Academy Festival in Los Angeles
The track features several guests including a Jack Antonoff production, saxophone from Kamasi Washington, beat production from Kendrick Lamar collaborator Soundwave, and backing vocals from Jenny Lewis and Cara Delevingne.
Clark was recently interviewed by writer By Nick Paumgarten from the New Yorker and in the digital article (which you can read here) mentions the model-actress’ cameo as an aside. He writes:
There’s a song on the new album called Pills. “Pills to grow, pills to shrink, pills, pills, pills and a good stiff drink/ Pills to fuck, pills to eat, pills, pills, pills down the kitchen sink.” (As it happens, those lines are sung by Delevingne, who will be credited, for the benefit of the British gossip press, as an underground sensation named Kid Monkey.) “I was trying to hold on,” Clark recalls. “I didn’t have coping mechanisms for tremendous anxiety and depression. I was trying to get through pharmaceutically.
