Song of the Day: MGMT Honor Alan Vega With Cover of “Goodbye Darling”

Sadly, it’s been a while since we’ve heard any new work from MGMT. With the sorrowful passing of Alan Vega, the band covered his track Goodbye Darling from his 1983 LP Saturn Strip, the band paid tribute to the Suicide frontman. Vega passed away this past Saturday, at the age of 78.

MGMT have long considered Vega’s band Suicide a significant influence on their work, with hints of the iconic proto-punk progressive sound. The cover further proves how the two bands are cut from the same cloth, MGMT stays rather true to the original and the influence of sound is noticeable in MGMT’s work. “…In loving memory,” the duo write in the cover’s SoundCloud description.
