Speedy Ortiz frontdemon Sadie Dupuis has announced her debut LP, Slugger, which she wrote, produced, and recorded in Philadelphia this year. Under the moniker Sad13, you can now listen to the lead single Get a Yes below. The track makes consent sexy which is s0mehow controversial due to rape culture but with consent being a simple concept to understand, sexual education in music is incredibly important and has very little representation. With lyrics like “I say yes to the dress when I put it on, I say yes if I want you to take it off, I say yes for your touch when I need your touch, I say yes if I want to.” It’s a song for women that actually champion women’s autonomy, reflect women’s desires, and lets women be funny and normal and cool.
The album Slugger was mixed by Gabe Wax and mastered by Emily Lazar, with “occasional” drums from Ava Luna’s Julian Fader. Slugger is out November 11th. Get a Yes is a harmonious and lush track, listen below.
Dupuis says in a press release:
“I wanted to make songs that were the opposite of Genie in A Bottle or The Boy Is Mine. Songs that put affirmative consent at the heart of the subject matter and emphasize friendship among women and try to deescalate the toxic jealousy and ownership that are often centered in romantic pop songs.
