SXSW 2016 GATRS’ Artist Choice: Week Three

The days until SXSW are coming fast and we are getting very excited for it. This week’s choices are some of our favorite artists that we simply cannot wait to see.

Teri’s Must-See Artist of the Week: BØRNS

Garrett Borns or better known as BØRNS, is an American indie pop artist from Michigan. His debut album entitled Dopamine was released in October 2015 and is a complete masterpiece. We caught him at SXSW last year and were surprised to see him on the lineup for this year. The twenty-four year old is extremely talented and brilliant, we just can’t get enough of his music. One of our favorite tracks is called Electric Love which you can listen to below. Stay in the know with him on Facebook, Twitter, and his official website.

Naomi’s Must-See Artist of the Week: Bloc Party

Bloc Party are an English indie rock band composed of Kele Okereke, Russell Lissack, Justin Harris, and Louis Bartle. Finding out that the band were coming to SXSW really excited us and we can’t wait to see them smash it live. Their fifth studio album Hymns was released just recently on January 29th, 2016 and was a very well received, beautiful LP. The band’s amazing talent and stage presence has led to an extremely big fan base that will only continue to grow. Listen to Different Drugs below. Follow up with Bloc Party on Facebook, Twitter, and on their official website.

Krystal’s Must-See Artist of the Week: Drowners

The American-Welsh post-punk band, Drowners are certainly going to be a big hit at this year’s SXSW because of their signature sound and overall amazing songs. Made up of Matthew Hitt, Jack Ridley, Erik Snyder, and Joe Brodie the band are currently working on their sophomore album that we can’t wait to dig in to. They’ve just shared a teaser video of a song coming March 2nd which really has us even more thrilled for the upcoming album. Their debut self entitled album was absolutely phenomenal and that’s exactly what we hope for on this new one. Listen to one of my personal favorite Drowners songs called Luv, Don’t Hold Me Down below. Keep up with them on Facebook, Twitter, and on their official website.

Megan’s Must-See Artist of the Week: Nai Harvest

Ben Thompson and Lew Currie, or better known as Nai Harvest, are a two-piece slacker punk band from Sheffield. With the release of LP Hairball, the band have become even more well-known in the music world. When I first found out that they were coming to SXSW, I was immediately thrilled. The scuzzy punk duo can really create a hell of a song, that’s why their album is one of my favorites for sure. Ocean of Madness is my personal favorite song off of the album which you can listen to below. Stay in the know with Nai Harvest on Facebook, Twitter, and Sound Cloud.

Molly’s Must-See Artist of the Week: The Academic

The Mullingar based indie rock band, The Academic, are made up of Craig Fitzgerald (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Matt Murtagh (lead guitar, backing vocals), Stephen Murtagh (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Dean Gavin (drums, backing vocals). The band is one of our personal favorites for their eclectic sound and wonderful tunes. Different is one of the greatest songs that the band have released, its catchy and upbeat sound is what really intrigued us and we can’t wait to hear it live. Listen to Different below and follow-up with them on Facebook and Sound Cloud.
