We wanted to start 2018 with a ferocious bang here at The GATRS, so we are beginning our year with The Ramonas and their follow up album to 2016’s EP You Asked For It. The Ramonas are Lisa Lathwell (vox), Maxine Cahill (Guitar), Victoria Smith (bass), and Camille Phillips (drums). The band are more widely known as the world’s most popular female tribute to iconic punk pioneers The Ramones. They are now set to move into the originals world with their eagerly anticipated self-released debut album First World Problems.
The album is a fiery post-punk album that is filled with raw energy and gritty robust vocals that is a fusion of The Runaways meets The Ramones.
The album is self-penned and is their take on growing up in the noughties era with tales from the road and living as the social media generation. The tracks are completely relatable with songs Poser, I Can’t Cope, Quarter Life Crisis… I think I can speak freely and say we’ve somehow felt similar. The lyrics reflect the song, it’s loud and in your face. In a tumultuous time in the world the punk energy and rebelling against “the man” and those in power… It’s very fitting to the mood.
With 14 blistering tracks lasting less than 30 minutes, there’s no room for fillers on this loud, fast and powerful debut, which also includes an appearance from punk legend Charlie Harper on harmonica. Stream the album below.
