‘Will the The Strokes ever have new music’ now seems to be a question of the past. With Governors Ball Festival around the corner and their New York show at Capitol Theatre on May 31st, it seems that we may FINALLY hear new music as soon as tomorrow.
Sure we may be adding more fuel to the already growing fire of speculation but we can’t help but be excited with all the hints… For instance, yesterday, news broke that Julian Casablancas will deliver his first installment of his new monthly radio show that will premiere on SiriusXMU tomorrow, May 26, at 10AM EST on channel 35. His show is called Culture Void and he’ll showcase and discuss his favorite obscure music, “I’m excited to have an hour to get weird on a big platform,” he said in a statement.
Secondly, since the Strokes are playing Gov Ball in New York next week, Albert Hammond, Jr. coyly tweeted this during an impromptu twitter Q & A.
Thirdly, over on Instagram and Twitter, bassist Nikolai Fraiture asked fans for song requests for a warm-up show in Port Chester, New York on May 31st while also suggesting the band may have “some surprises.. maybe..” With all of this evidence, new music FINALLY seems imminent.
The real kicker… Our closing argument if you will, is that earlier this evening. In classic Strokes style, the projection doesn’t give us information but it begins with the band’s logo, before ’80s style graphics show a figure running on a track, with the words “future”, “present” and “past” flashing up on-screen. Then closes with the Cult Records logo – the label run by frontman Julian Casablancas – finishes the whole thing off. Maybe a musical release or a show announcement like they did in Barcelona and London.
