It is still a bit away but the year 2016 marks the 4oth anniversary of the Ramones self titled debut album.
Earlier this week, it was announced that Martin Scorsese is set to direct a new movie based on the band.
Jeff Jampole who took over the Ramones estate upon the recent death of Tommy, the last surviving Ramone, has several things in the works for the anniversary.
In addition to the Scorsese movie, he is planning a documentary that will contain never before footage of the band on tour in the 1970’s and early 1980’s. There is also plans for a book, remastering of the albums , as well as new apparel and posters.
Ramones debut album was released on April 23, 1976 and remains one of the markings of the punk rock movement. The albums length which clocks in at just under 30 minutes of playing time contain 14 tracks including such iconic songs as Blitzkrieg Bop and Judy is a Punk.
Many of the bands we listen to today site this album as an influence to the music they are making today. I guess the real question is..with 2016 just around the corner in Hollywood time, will Scorsese have time, with his busy schedule to make it in time for the anniversary?
The GATRS will keep you informed on the film and the anniversary of one of the greatest albums to be made as the months go by. In the meantime watch the Ramones as they perform Blitzkrieg Bop in London, December of 1977.
