Brooklyn psych-rock duo Surf Rock Is Dead releases “Diabolik”

Brooklyn-based dream-pop duo Surf Rock is Dead (SRiD for short) are originally from Melbourne and Chicago, it is a creative trust between Joel Witenberg and Kevin Pariso. Their soundscape is lush, much like a lucid dream state.

The band has just shared their new single “Diabolik”  along with the announcement of their debut album Existential Playboy out on May 1st. “Diabolik” is dream-pop at its finest, with poetic lyrics that float across the airy instrumentation. It brings up thoughts of summer, while we are in the dead of winter.

The band speaks of this about “Diabolik”:

” Diabolik’ is about dealing with some extreme situations we’ve encountered living with various people in NYC. Sometimes you never know what you’re going to get… Whether it be a roommate sleeping on the bathroom floor, a pile of who-knows-what on the living room floor, or strangers ending up in YOUR room, sometimes it’s not exactly how you imagined your life. ‘Diabolik’ is a venting of those crazy roommate situations that suck in the moment, but given enough time, actually are pretty damn funny.”

You can usually find me traveling, queuing, or at barricade for a band. I am most likely doing all three things in a day. If I'm not at a concert you can also find me digging through crates for that coveted black disc of vinyl.
