Geographer, the moniker of Mike Deni, has shared his latest single, “When Will I Belong.” Initially slated as a bonus track on the vinyl of his upcoming album Deni decided to share the single after its acclaim from its placement on NBC’s New Amsterdam.
“I originally wrote this for a TV show but it really touched a nerve with me, and I was so happy that their vision for the song they wanted aligned so well with how I was feeling at the time. It came from a very deep place of long to have a beautiful life, wanting to let out the light that is inside me (and all of us). Wanting to be one of the lucky ones. I’m really happy people wanted me to release it. PLUS I’m now going to make it a bonus track on the new album’s vinyl.”
On the upcoming LP Deni says, “This album began as an attempt to recenter myself creatively. I think the process began with the ‘New Jersey’ EP, that was kind of me declaring I wasn’t going to try to do anything other than just make good music, and now with this upcoming project I set out to find out what that really meant. I was done trying to make singles, or fill holes, or prove things to myself. I just wanted to push the bounds of what I was capable of and get that sense of adventure and exploration that made me decide to devote my life to music in the first place.”
