Get To Know: Needshes

Independent alt/rock band NEEDSHES returned with a new funky soul bundle, “When The Music’s Going Through You”, containing two stand-alone singles “Superstar” and “Unbelievable” which are both used in the new Lay’s ad campaign launched in 32 European countries for the whole year. The new release came soon after their latest single “My Heart” in August and stunning presenting their third full-length album, Truth Power in May.

NEEDSHES is an alt/rock band founded by singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Otabek Salamov. Bek gathered a full traditional rock formation around his project with the intent to create genuine, authentic music. In 2016 after several line-up changes, Ivan Petukhov (guitar) and Alexey Manakhov (drums) joined his team and made it possible for the sound created in the studio to fully sound live.

Over the years, they have garnered tremendous recognition for their singles “Time to See,” “Anything You Want” and the latest album “Truth Power”. Their songs got heavy rotation on idobi Radio, were featured on BBC Radio 6 Music, became a soundtrack for Renault and Lay’s TV commercials, internationally distributed movies Break, Quackerz, and sitcoms. Besides, the band has charted on Apple Music, Hype Machine, and won the Unsigned Only 2017 contest in Rock genre. In 2019 they performed as a special guest at the concert of You Me At Six in Moscow.

Their new release was influenced by Michael Jackson, Chic, Daft Punk, Jamiroquai, and Bruno Mars.

“Superstar” is the first track on the release. Illuminated by the night lights of Las Vegas and warmed up with the Mexican carnival motifs this gem visualizes a dream of being a superstar that is coming true before our eyes. The sparkling sound was influenced by Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars, Daft Punk, and Jamiroquai. The result is a tune so well endowed it could charm everyone in need of a slinky weekend starter. Lyrically, NEEDSHES surpasses themselves: “When you hold your Stratocaster and your lips touch microphone, Every priest and every bastard now will find his holy home.”

“Unbelievable” is the second and introspective part of the “music going through you”. Gentle soulful sound, the song carries a sense of admiration for the perfect image of the beloved. We’ll surprisingly find hard to resist disco dance floor on the second verse, while the chorus brings us the fragile emotion as if something beautiful is vanishing into thin air. Deeply influenced by the masterpiece “Random Access Memories”, it sounds both nostalgic and futuristic with slight electronic shades.

You can usually find me traveling, queuing, or at barricade for a band. I am most likely doing all three things in a day. If I'm not at a concert you can also find me digging through crates for that coveted black disc of vinyl.
