Isle of Wights Plastic Mermaids has released a new single, 1996 and accompanying video.
The song is a swirling, pounding, mental feeling of psych music that harks back to an earlier period.
Plastic Mermaids being fans of our fellow Oklahoman’s The Flaming Lips is evident on the spacy new single, and it is said that lead man Wayne Coyne is a fan, and who are we to doubt his judgment. The Lips influence also carries over into their live shows, which by the way are always sold out at home, where they have included a sparkly gold caped choir and a mirror covered mannequin who is suspended above their stage set like a disco ball.
They had this to say about their festive party like gigs…
“We’ve done gigs before where we’ve spent the entire gig fee on as much confetti as we could afford, And we’ve spent all our money on lasers more times than I can remember.”
Ummm, sign me up……
