Swedish singer-songwriter lodet (Joakim Bjornberg) weaves personal tales and forward-looking optimism into psych-rock vignettes that traverse styles. The laid-back feel of his music is thanks to many hours spent bird watching and plotting his garden.
lodet is rooted in Bjornberg’s childhood and taken from the name of his daycare in Trollhattan, Sweden. His parents worked long hours and often he found himself waiting on campus after hours, it was here that Bjornberg discovered his love for the stage and for music.
“Me and my friend played along to my dad’s cover band cassette recording,” Bjornberg shares. “Daniel drummed on pillows and I sang on the mic ‘Can´t Explain’ by The Who. That was when I cemented the image of myself as a frontman, entertainer, guitarist.”
Bjornberg has recently shared his first single Calling. The warm and joyful track bursts through layers of funky keys, syncopated drums, lilting guitars, and distant, distorted vocals that call out in excitement.
lodet shares about the song:“‘Calling’ originated from a long studio jam in 2018 in Stockholm. The song is like a whistling call for someone. I had been working on it for years but with this latest recording it has taken on a new meaning. It is about my unborn child, and not knowing much of what the future holds. In the verse I sing about Luka, which was the only name my girlfriend and I could agree on. It was important to me to include that name in the text so that I would always remember that early feeling.
