They may yet still be a bit small, but they are mighty.
We are talking about these little known ( to us any way ) UK bands, that have been really making some head lines over across the big pond, so much so, we thought they needed to be brought to your attention. We feel you will be hearing more from these bands in time, and we wanted to give you a bit of a heads up so you can be in the know before all your friends !!
Ok, maybe they are not OFFICIALLY a UK band, but we have included them here ( with their permission of course ) These French born sisters, Camille and Noemie Debray, were raised in South Africa and sold homemade soaps as children ( hence their name ) They have been touring non stop during 2016-2017 and released their debut single Bad Bitcharound the same time in Europe. They play rock and roll the way it should be played, LOUD. The girls are the perfect mix of glam and grunge and we love their message of female self empowerment and that they believe in ” absolute freedom and pursuit of one’s dream “
Think Pantone Red. This band seems a bit elusive with no twitter that we can find ( say what?) ,but the people we talk to that have seen them live say they are stunning. The band consists of Adam Hume ( Vocals ) Dom Watson ( Guitar/Vocals) Lucas Hunt ( Drums ) Rory McGowan ( Guitar ) and Sam Watkins ( Bass ) We think they sound a bit like The Strokes but they say they “ don’t see the point in being a band if you’re trying to emulate someone’s sound “ and we have to agree. Very artsy.
You can’t go wrong with influences such as Nick Cave, Iggy Pop, Dylan, and John Cooper Clark. Blinders political punk rock has been branded Punkadelic, but to us is just hard hitting, in your face rock and roll, and is exactly what the troubled world is needing right now. The band hails from Doncaster, but settled in Manchester to make music. The band consists of Thomas Haywood ( Vocal/guitar) Charlie McGough( Bass) and Matt Neale ( Drums ).
This four piece from Leeds has spent the past year supporting the likes of Blossoms,Cabbage, and The Kooks, so they have really been getting some major exposure. The indie pop band, who’s sound is rooted in the past, has been chosen by This Feeling to be ” Big in 2017 “. Tell us they are wrong, because we will disagree with you! The Strawberries are: Sam Neil ( Vocals/Guitar) Ethan Sherwin ( Bass/Vocals) Ben Heath ( Drums ). They formed around 2014 and their latest single is She Rhymes To Get Away ( out June 16th )
This guitar based rock band, pronounced WOLZ is energetic and edgy. Coming from Bedford, they released their debut EP, Back to The Beehive in 2012. The Wholls are : Tordy Cocchiarella ( Vocals/Guitar) Santino Cocchiarella ( Guitar/Vocals) Joe Stevenson ( Bass/Vocals) Daniel De Feo (Drums)
Paves took their name from the 1968 Paris Riots where students ripped up pavement and threw at police, the idea behind the action was that they were ripping up the foundation of society. This blues infused rock band hails from London and includes Luke Shield ( vocals/guitar ), Mike Whitaker ( Lead guitar ), Perry Reed ( Bass, Backing Vocals ), Tom Triggs ( Drums ). Listen to their newest single, Baby:
Loud, rowdy punk with a nod from punk legend Iggy Pop, do I need to say much more to get you to listen to this East London Band? I think not. Coming together in 2015, they describe their sound as ” crack punk rock ” and we hear from reliable sources, they are one of the best live bands around the UK today. False Heads are: Luke Griffith ( Vocals/guitar), Jake Elliott ( Bass ), Barney Nash ( Drums )
This is just a small example of the great music that is being performed all over the UK right now, we have covered many great bands in the last few weeks, and urge you to take a look around , and if you want to venture further into the scene, please follow This Feeling on Twitter.
You can usually find me traveling, queuing, or at barricade for a band. I am most likely doing all three things in a day.
If I'm not at a concert you can also find me digging through crates for that coveted black disc of vinyl.
