Bringing the culture to Park City, UT in its fourteenth year, The Blackhouse Foundation joins the lineup of the virtual 2021 Sundance Film Festival on Sundance Digital Main St. via Hopin. The organization will curate seven days of programming for the entire Sundance run from January 28-February 3, 2021. Additionally, The Blackhouse Foundation welcomes Facebook back as Presenting Sponsor, Strayer University as a Select Sponsor, and OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network as a Supporting Sponsor.
Regarding the presence of The Blackhouse Foundation at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, Board Chair Brickson Diamond commented,
“In 2007, Blackhouse launched at Sundance with no proof of concept, ran the full length of the festival, and began to change the face of independent film. We sparked a metamorphosis. COVID-19, George Floyd’s murder, and the resulting global racial reckoning have created such disruption and loss. However, just as we did in 2007, Blackhouse sees glimmers of possibility, with 27 Black films being represented in the 2021 reduced line up of 70 films. As we return to a full festival run of programming at the virtual 2021 Sundance Film Festival, we are intent on changing the world for Black creators…again. We hope our regulars and every person who ever dreamed of attending Sundance will join us.”
In advance of the festival, The Blackhouse Foundation will unveil a robust schedule of virtual activations, discussions, events, and community gatherings in the coming weeks. As always, expect surprise guests and full cultural immersion.
Facebook will return with an expansion of their SEEN program, now a year-long activation providing support for Black filmmakers at every stage in their career. 2021 Sundance marks the 4th year of partnership with The Blackhouse Foundation, returning as their Presenting Sponsor. In addition to highlighting the best, and often least talked about, Black films and directors of the festival, the partnership helps make possible Blackhouse’s transition to the virtual world.
Be on the lookout for more soon, as The Blackhouse Foundation powers the culture at The Sundance Film Festival virtually.
